Subject: motivation behind the torch
Jun 29 2012 05:47 AM

Maybe it is precisely because the world has ignored the tragic deaths of those who have given their lives, that has motivated the TGIE to put the issue, "more in the face" of the world. How many peoples of other Nations , ordinary folk, not Tibet group members, or Buddhist groups, or politicians actually know what is happening. Maybe The Tibetan Youth ought to get out on the streets of their various countries and conduct a world wide poll. Questions like.
Have you heard of Tibet?
Do you know where it is?
Do you know about the Chinese invasion?

I know personally, that despite having various booklets, pictures, mantras around my office, where public can see, when I ask them direct questions similar to those above, they do not know. So many people go round with their eyes closed. I think you would be stunned by lack of knowledge. Many recognize HH by face and name but that is it.

Subject: Stop nonsense

We do so many things that doesn't help get attention we deserve. What torch can alight when even self immolation is virtually ignored by world. May be we should stop nonsense like these and start doing something that really matters. TGIE's this new initiative is rather ''FUNNY''

Given the large number of self-immolations in Tibet (over 40 to date) the use of a torch or flame for a protest is a very bad idea. The Chinese will say this demonstrates the TGIE is intigating the self-immolations in Tibet, which is of course untrue.

During the 2008 Beijing Olympics it was appropriate to use a Tibetan freedom torch relay alongside the Olympics torch relay. But that protest is done & over.

Now people will say we're encouraging self-immolations by using a torch or flame as a symbol of the Tibetan freedom movement.

The Tibetans who have self-immolated have done so of their own free will. They did not receive any support or enouragement from exile nor did they request it. Tibetans in exile should not try to misappropriate their selfless acts by using a torch or flame as part of a protest in exile.
