Readers' Comments on "The Impact of the Resignations of Gyari & Gyaltsen"
One June 3, 2012, the Tibetan Government-in-Exile (TGIE) announced that Kalon Tripa Lobsang Sangay had accepted the resignations of Lodi Gyari and Kelsang Gyaltsen as the envoys for His Holiness the Dalai Lama in negotiations with the Chinese authorities....

In the light of the recent comment from Dr Jinali, it is a great pity that the Envoys did not come to terms earlier that their fruitless talks were wasting precious time.

How can we advise our family for better understanding? Our past history is not very clear how can it be now. We are toxaemia by our own family through the language of Gods in the name of Rangtsen etc; the truth is our sincere brothers & sisters are suffering in Tibet. Those who are willing to be in the history or willing to win the medals go there on the place and proof it. Otherwise it is personal bank account. Until now no one in our history could not make our people united even through the transformation of God on Earth which, once done by Roman emperor Caligula before Christ. No more Buddhist sects no more Ü-tshang, Khampa & Amdo we are all Tibetan before the refugees coming from land of Ugen. Do not live in temporary profit let us united & clean all those infection before getting our father's land back. "I trust my stomach but give me diarrhoea". When I read the comments about Gyari's so called resignation it seems clear now that people seem to finally know the real Gyari who had all the privilege of living a comfortable life in Washoington D C at the expense of his fellow tibetans.During all those years he might be laughing inside when no one had the balls to question. How much has he benefited personally from us as unquestioning tibetans and what has he accomplished for the Tibetans. Gyari should now stay away and we need young minds and fresh ideas of exchange to rekindle the spirit of Tibetan Independence. We need more and more Tibetans like Woeser and we need to remember no one has the right to stop us from speaking out our mind for the future of our people. Bottom line. lie can not hide, as the saying goes; you can run but you cn not hide.

Subject: Gyari's Resignation.
Jun 28 2012 09:10 PM

Gyari's resignation doesn't come as surprise. All those reasons he heaped on 'deteriorating situation in Tibet and lack of China's positive response' for pulling himself from the post of envoy is nothing but just a cover to save his face. It all boil down to this: after Katri Lobsang Sangay announced he was going to reshuffle the team of envoys, implying Gyari's days were numbered, Gyari, a shrewd and seasoned politician, pulled himself under the pretext of a 'profound' reason, before LS pulled plug on him and face the humiliation! Thats what it is! The world has changed for Gyari after HH handed all his authority to elected Kalon Tripa and he knows it.

However, the truth of the matter is actually this: there's no situation so grave and Chinese response so nonchalant that would compel Gyari to tender resignation on moral or whatever grounds. Remember those time-wasting 'talks' that stretched to nine rounds was because of Gyari, because he wanted to stick with the job come what may so every time he returned back from wasting time in Beijing, instead of admitting talks failed he kept saying he was "optimistic" and "hopeful" in the next round, so he could hang on and show his relevance. In other words, he almost lied to us repeatedly to keep his job! It was only later when truth surfaced itself that those talks were heading nowhere did Gyari begin to admit they have achieved no agreement whatsoever despite holding NINE rounds of talks. It was almost like Barnie Madoff's ponzi scheme! Barnie didnt admit to his investors he was taking them for ride because he felt it was morallly wrong for him; he admitted because he had no money coming in to pay the next investor who was due and people became suspicious when he started default on payments.

I'm glad Gyari gave in to Kalon Tripa's authority to pick who he wants to appoint the next envoy! No matter whom one is or how able he is, first rule of law is: obey the order and follow the rule of democracy! Period! We don’t want any Fidel Castro popping up!

And talkin about Gyari's legacy, I wholeheartedly agree with Woser la. Those nine rounds of talks under his watch bore not even a leaf, forget about the fruit, but rather he took us for ride like Barney Madoff, so his legacy is NADA, ZERO!

And last but not least, interestingly enough, since LS announced his desire to bring in new team of Envoys last year, editors of TPR didnt look very happy at the propect of Gyari washing his hands with the job. Gyari maybe the best negotiators Tibetans have ever known in the eyes of TPR editors, but his initial snub at LS and claiming he's above Kalon Tripa's authority to hire n fire him flew in the face of our democracy. That didnt seem to bother TPR and kept rooting for him! Interesting!

Subject: Is Gyari rejecting Lam Uma now ?
Jun 27 2012 03:54 PM

Gyari Lodoe should make it clear whether Lam Uma is a total failure or still has some degree of relevance. From the tone of his resignation letter, Lam Uma is a infutile excercise. If Lam Uma is proven fundamentally wrong, the blame must go to Gyari himself.

Subject: Not "baseless" at all

Kyapchoel la seems to be forgetting the well-known fact that during votes like the 2008 Special Meeting and during the referendum debacle, only a minority voted for "autonomy as part of China." The majority voted for "whatever HH wants", and clearly now HH wants us to decide for ourselves.

Funny enough, at the 2008 Special Meeting, more people voted for "independence" than "autonomy." Pro-autonomy wallas spin this as autonomy winning only because they count "whatever HH wants" towards their votes. Dishonest if you ask me.

H.H. WANTS US TO GROW UP AND DECIDE FOR OURSELVES!!

Your articles mentioned that without any concrete proof, His Holiness mentioned that majority of Tibetans support Middle Way, yet, in your article you mentioned recent polls have shown that majority of Tibetan do not want to follow Middle Way, without mentioning the study in your end note.(as should have been)
